The vote is in!  TennesseeZ was voted as the favorite of the VBF membership.  I personally thought any of the contestants would have made great winners as all the bikes were sweet.  TennesseeZ is entitled to a FREE carburetor rebuild at any time during this calender year supplied by the site host, wiredgeorge Motorcycle Carburetors.

Long story...
Bike used to belong to a friend I served with in the Air Force a long time ago.  He bought it from the original owner who only had it for a couple months before getting orders to go overseas,  My friend bought the bike, rode it the last year he was in the Air Force and then rode it to college at WNC after he got out of the Air Force.  After collete, he rode it as he worked at Duke Power for a long time.  My friend put over 56K miles on the clock!!  At this point, the bike still runs but will need an engine overhaul soon.

Anyway, my friend parked it in 1994 and then he passed away unexpectedly in 2008.  His widow, whom I had also known all these years, called and asked me if I would take the bike and  get it running again as a tribute to my friend.   I took the project, but MAN,  it has been a huge project! Almost $6K dollars have been spent. This figure does not include the money I will be spending on rehabbing the engine.  But I made a promise to a widow of a very good friend, so it was definitely not a project done to make money.

The young man in  the picture with the finished bike is my cousins son.  My cousin and his son spent as much time on bringing "Jonah" ( Name we gave the bike) back as I did.

LOTS and LOTS of Labor and parts.  The "before" picture on the upper left shows the bike as we drug it out of the barn in North Carolina in 2008. It has taken 3 years (until 2011) of steady work to bring it back.

Regards
TennesseeZ    ED

1979 KZ650. The manual calls for 3.5 liters of oil.  Does this seem like a lot of oil to anyone else? And also when it's full, where should the oil read on the viewing glass on the side of the motor. Is it half way?

Hey guys! My name is Steven nice to meet you all. This seems to be the best place for carb info, I was hoping you guys could give me a hand with these carbs here, from what I know they're 28mm pumpers. I got them off ebay, they said they were off a current Z1000 drag bike. So obviously I dont think the needles and everything are stock, I was wondering if anyone had a manual for rebuilding these? Any help is appreciated =]
A little back story on the bike they're going on: a 77 GS750 with pop yoshimura high comp pistons (844cc) with over sized valves and dyna coils/ignition,...

I was wondering what the lenght of a factory swingarm. I would guess the measurement would be from center of pivot hole to center of the axle mount?

I have an factory KZ1000 swingarm that has been extended. From the center of the pivot hole to the center of the axle mount is 23 inches. I would guess its 3 over maybe 4.

Thanks Spencer

Do we have a store to purchase all the correct fasteners for the KAW in the USA. Dosent have to be chrome.

I know that there are factory correct bolts on EBAY....but they are one at a time and they are not a quality chrome item.

I did a search on the I-Net and found some of the items, but the quality wasent there. The best place I found was the place listed below.

Thanks. Spencer

Ok, my question is:  I have a 1978 A2A. The tack is not working. Could you tell me if a 78 Kaw Tach has the same inner mechanism as a 77, 79, 80, 81 and so on. Im not worried about the case, rings or glass just the inner mec as my tach case is perfect. I just want to swap the inner mec to mine.

Thanks, Spencer

I took my bike on the highway for the first time last night. 79 kz650. Ran about 5 miles. Bike was running good! When I got home I went inside. I came back out 20min later to put bike into the garage. Omg there's was a really big puddle under the bike. I'm thinking what the heck!!! I moved the bike into the garage were there was light. And holy cow! The rear of the bike was soaked! Looked like gas was poured on to the bike. It looks like the second carb was pouring out gas? My k&n air filter was drenched! My gas take was bone dry ( had a LiL more than a gallon in it). My pants...

I am planning on replacing my current motor on my KZ1000 with a rebuilt Z1R engine; at 1075cc, and 400 lift cams.  I currently have the old "two-screw" Mikunis, and I assume that they are 28mm; I was told that they are 1974-1975 models.  What jets should I use with these carbs, and should the float height be changed. I have VM30s on order with George, but I would like to have a nice late autumn ride before putting her up for the winter. ....or should I wait for the carbs that I have on order.

Hi guys

I have confused myself to a standstill with this one now so would appreciate any advice that can be given please.

A bit of background first as it is relevant. I have a US import KZ650C1 which is fitted with Mikuni VM24 carbs (no accel pump type).

When I got the bike it was a complete nightmare...the PO was a messer that had no idea what he was doing, but around 2 thousand quid and many hours later....the bike is now a minter ....except for the carbs.

The PO ran K&N pods with an Alfa 4-1 exhaust setup but the bike ran appallingly. He had...

This is my latest project. I have never seen this bike in this area.

I had to pull the carbs and clean them. I hope it will run!  Wink

We found these carburetors in some old inventory and want to see if anyone can help us identify them?  We think they are CR750 carbs but not OEM's.

My bike has not run right since supposedly having the carbs rebuilt a number of years ago. Two years ago I found a guy that pulled them off and cleaned them and it ran like new, for a very short period of time. Then I cleaned a bunch of gunk out of my tank, replaced the filters and cleaned the jets again. It starts nicely, accelerates great but at cruising speed it feels like it's running out of gas. I was talking with a guy that is going to be working on my bike; I told him that I had cleaned the jets and he asked me if I had cleaned the emulsion tubes? I said, "What emulsion...
