The Vintage Bike Forum is proud to announce member Max900 as our July, 2010 Bike of the Month owner. He is entitled to a 1/2 price carburetor rebuild at any time during the calender year supplied by the site host, wiredgeorge Motorcycle Carburetors.

Max writes,
"I've owned my Kawasaki 1984 GPz (ZX900A1) for just over a year and a half now. It has 29000 original miles. It sat for some five or six years right before I got it so it has been a constant ride a little fix a little. Just finished replacing a bunch of dry rotted and missing rubber grommets, bumpers, and O-rings. Also just did an Oil change, valve adjustment, new pilot jets and spark plugs.
So far it has been a good bike all in all and the more I ride it the more It grows on me. Oh yeah... It's quick as lightning.
History of this bike as it was related to me by PO:
He bought it off the original owner in 85. The original owner put about 500 miles on it and dropped it, got scared and sold to my friend and his friend who shared it for a few years. His buddy got married had kids and lost interest in riding so after letting sit for some years my friend bought his friend and co-owner out and rode it for some years taking good care of it until he kind of lost interest and had it sitting for five or six years.
He wanted to ride again but when he asked a dealer what they would charge him to get it back on the road and was told it would cost him more to get it running than she was worth. He called me and asked if I wanted to go pick it up so that he could make room for the new Yamaha R1 he picked up.
Now she sits pretty in my stable and will be there for many years to come, hopefully."

Have a chance to get my hands on a clean set of Concourse carbs from another local shop that's closing it's doors.
Wonder how well they'll work on my 78 KZ1000 A2A ?
The 26's I have on it now run ok but it never hurts to have a back-up set & the Concourse carbs just came off a good running bike they decided to part out.
They look exactly like this set I found on ebay.

My 78 KZ1000 has developed a new noise I can't figure out.
I removed the center stand because it bumps against the new/old school 4/2 headers I installed. Since then I noticed after the bike sits leaned over on the side stand all night it will make a LOUD tap, tap, tap noise when first cranked again until the motor starts to warm up & then the noise gets less & less until it goes away completely.
Oh & by the way, if I leave the bike strapped straight & upright on my dyno overnight .... I never hear this taping noise when the motor is cold ... so this...

is anyone else having running issues because of ethenol fuel? I have a 73 Z1F that everytime the temperature drops 10 degrees i have to adjust the air mixture. I have owned this bike for years and keep everything well within spec as far as valves and timing are concerned however, now that all the gas station have fuel containing ethenol I am having idle issues. Have checked the advancer, it also has Dyna ignition and accell coils. the pilot jets are 17.5 and the mains are 120 k&n air filters V&H 4-1 exhaust, also is running wiseco 1197 pistons with 1mm bigger valves. As i said I...

Hi folks!
I have a clean '96 Suzuki GN125ET, a little thumper bike. Never got to ride it yet because of engine problems.
One source said it has a Mikuni VM20SS, another said VM26SS, Suzi P/N 13200-05400 [N model California only]. I'm thinking VM26 cause a 20 isn't big enough for a 125.
It starts great and idles smoothly. When giving throttle it's fine up to maybe 3,000-3500, then it all falls apart: severe miss, bad stumbling, back-firing through carb. Fiddling the throttle through that, if I got it up to say 5,500-6,000 it smoothed out...

A friend wanted me to check his girlfriends bike out.
He had taken it to a shop to have the carbs gone through. Cost . $100.00.
They told him they didn't need the gas tank.
He went and picked it up and there was no improvement. He carried it back and left the gas tank.
They told him trash in the tank caused the problem so they went through the carbs again. Cost $300.00.
I backed out the drain screw and metel came out. Drained the other one and just gas.
This is what I found when I removed the Bowls.
